I have a passion for classic vehicles. I enjoy keeping them, driving them, looking at them and mechanic-ing them. I have set up this blog to share some of this passion with other enthusiasts.

I have a classic camper, Morris, my 1968 Morris/BMC LD ex-ambulance camper van. I also have a classic car, a 1959 Renault Dauphine, Ruby, who now resides with me but has been in the family since new.

Another one of my passions is motorcycling. I indulge this passion on my Kawasaki ZZR600 but I also have a 1978 Honda CB550 in my small collection.

Keeping these vehicles is usually fun and often challenging. It is always an adventure, whether I am driving up the road, attending a show or festival, or getting my hands dirty on the drive (or anywhere else one of these pesky machines decides to conk!).

  1. Hello ‘I’
We spoke yesterday at Cropredy and I thought I’d have a look at the website.
I’d like to you let you know I spent many a happy mile, mostly travelling between Seven Kings and Leigh on Sea in Essex, in my Scout Leader’s Renault Dauphine (pale lilac coloured) in the late 50’s/early 60’s. Doug was completely zany and regularly turned his wheel backwards and forwards (or side to side?) in time with whatever he had on the radio. He later had another Renault but I can’t really remember that. I was at Cropredy (our first time) with a friend from those sea-scout days who goes to Cropredy every year – now with his wife, daughter and son-in-law. We also travelled to Denmark in 1965 with the other Scout Leader’s VW Caravette (reg. OO 1946) (one after the ‘splitty’) and he/the scout group later had an old bus with a huge Gardener diesel engine. Such are memories! (Oh, that other scout leader also had a Pininfarina Morris Oxford – with ‘wings’ – reg. no. 100VRM – vroom!). Trevor and Georgina

    • Hi Trevor and Georgina,
How lovely to hear from you after our brief conversation whilst packing up. We all had a fab Cropredy and hope to be there (possibly with other friends) next year. I hope that you will give it another go next year.

It’s very interesting to hear stories of other classics especially Dauphines as there are not that many left, mainly due to the dreaded rust (and because of our lovely British weather!). Mine was kept in it’s garage pretty much all it’s life in Surbiton. My Great Aunt used to drive it, with another Aunt, on day trips to Southend. They would turn round and come home if it started to rain!

I love the way that old number plates stick in your mind and 100VRM is a great one!

I will be posting plenty more when I have a bit of time so keep your eyes open and perhaps we will chat again at Cropredy next year.

      Berri – classicvan
